Waste tyre regulations
The Waste Management (Tyres and Waste Tyres) Regulations 2017 came into effect on 1st October 2017.
The regulations were introduced to promote the environmentally sound management of waste Tyres.
The regulations provide rules for tracking waste tyres from when they are discarded until they are either reused or recycled. They also compare the amount of waste tyres generated with the amount sold. Businesses that deal with tyres must follow these rules. By joining the scheme run by Circol ELT, businesses ensure they comply with these legal requirements. Circol ELT operates this scheme with government approval under the Waste Management (Tyres and Waste Tyres) Regulations 2017.
Local Authorities are responsible for enforcing the obligations of Tyre Retailers. Local Authority Waste Enforcement Officers visit Circol ELT members and non-members to ensure compliance with the Regulations.
