Traffic management & parking

If you believe a parking fine was issued in error or there are extenuating circumstances, you may submit an appeal.

Pay and Display parking is currently in operation in the towns of Tuam, Clifden, Loughrea, Gort, Athenry and Ballinasloe. In order to facilitate residents of these towns, two residents parking permits can be issued per household, to residents of dwellings who are vehicle owners and whose normal place of residence is situated in a Street to which the Parking Places Bye-laws apply.

Galway County Council adopted Parking Places Bye-Laws, Car Park Bye-Laws and Taxi Bye-Laws to regulate and manage traffic and parking in 5 towns in the County: Tuam, Loughrea, Clifden (Cleggan), Athenry,
and Portumna (Marina).

Traffic Management Plans are prepared with the aim of maximising the use of the current road networks. The process is as follows:
Proposals for the scheme are drafted by the Council and a notice is published advising that the scheme will be on public display for one month and submissions will be received for a further two weeks from that date
The proposals are also sent to the elected members, Gardai and relevant local bodies for comment within the above timeframe. The final scheme is drawn up to include changes arising from these consultations and it is placed before the members of the Council for their information
A notice is published advising that the scheme will come into effect on a stated day and that copies of the scheme are available at stated locations for the information of the public.
