Healthy Ireland At Your Library

Health information, books and events at your library

Healthy Ireland at Your Library is part of a national initiative aimed at supporting a healthier Ireland by placing a focus on prevention, individual awareness and keeping people healthy for longer.

Libraries have long been trusted providers of health information, and now each library in Ireland has a specific collection of health-related books – a Healthy Ireland collection. These books have been chosen by healthcare professionals and librarians to help you to:

  • Find out about various health conditions

  • Understand what a diagnosis means for you or a loved one

  • Develop a healthier lifestyle

  • Understand how others live with a particular condition.

Both print and e-books are available, as well as a limited number of e-audiobooks. A list of the books in the collection is available on the Libraries Ireland website, and new books are being added all the time.

Healthy Ireland Events

Throughout the year, Galway Public Libraries host talks by healthcare professionals on diverse topics. We also host activities like Chair Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness, Nutrition Awareness sessions and much more. All of these activities are free of charge, but booking may be required as places can be limited. Contact your local library to find out more about what’s happening.
