Ensuring all our collections are catalogued to the appropriate archival standard is a core objective for Galway County Council Archives.
Our aim is to ensure our collections are accessible to people across the world.
Check our online catalogue to see what Galway County Council Archives has available. Our collections are great for anyone researching local government history, including Poor Law Unions, Rural District Councils, and the former local authorities of Ballinasloe, Loughrea, and Tuam Town Councils.
They also provide valuable insights into the county's administrative, economic, political and social history. We also have various private and small collections.
Many key collections such as the Galway County Council minutes (GC/1) have been digitised and are available in the Digital Archive.
Access to our collections is by appointment only.
Note: Due to the large number of records in our archive, not every record is catalogued individually and might not appear in a keyword search. However, you may find relevant series (e.g., Board of Guardian minute books) that reference your research topic (e.g., water pumps). If you have any doubts, please contact us, and we will provide advice and guidance on where relevant records might be located.
