Galway County Council Archives has a large digital archive with many important and popular collections.

Digitising these records helps preserve them and makes them easily accessible online to people around the world. The Archives plans to continue adding more collections online for everyone to use and enjoy.

The collections featured in the Digital Archive are provided to the public for educational and scholarly use only. Please get in touch regarding permissions to reproduce any content featured on this site. These are copyrighted by Galway County Council.

Researchers should check each collection’s descriptive list to understand its content. You can use the online catalogue to learn more about what we hold. 

Several collections have been indexed by FindMyPast. 

Their Galway Collection includes:

  • Records from the Poor Law Unions of Ballinasloe, Clifden, Gort, Mountbellew (part), and Tuam
  • Portumna Medical Register (1881–1884)
  • St George Mansergh, Headford Estate Survey (1775)
