Appointments: To visit the Archives and consult original material in our Reading Room, you must make an appointment. Email archivist@galwaycoco.ie or call 091 509 388 to schedule your visit.

Order in Advance: Order all material to be researched in advance, giving several days’ notice. Quote the relevant collection and item reference numbers (e.g., GS21/01B) from the archive catalogue. Contact us if you have trouble searching the catalogue.

Reading Rules: Access is governed by the Reading Rules and Guidelines, and you'll need to fill out a Reader's Registration form when you arrive.

Identification: Please bring original current photographic identification and official proof of address to your first appointment to complete the Reader registration process.

Research Credentials: Written proof of researcher credentials and research purpose, such as an academic referral, may also be required.

Location: The Reading Room is located at Library Headquarters, Island House, Cathedral Square, Galway, H911 RYC9.

Accessibility: The archives aim to be as accessible as possible, but you can't access unprocessed collections. The processing of collections may take many years.

Restricted Access: Records containing personal information that are less than 100 years old will have restricted access.

Fragile Items: Some items may be withdrawn due to their fragile condition.
