- Friendly staff who are happy to help.
- Comfortable spaces to sit and relax.
- Help with finding books you’ll enjoy.
- Support using self-service machines and online resources.
Our staff can also tell you about upcoming events and help you join in activities like:
- Book clubs
- Craft groups
- Scrabble games
- And much more!
Helpful Services in the Library
To make reading easier, we offer:
- Reading glasses and magnifying lenses to borrow.
- Large-print books for comfortable reading.
- E-books on our BorrowBox app, where you can change the font size and style to suit your needs.
If you prefer listening to books:
- We have books on CD.
- You can also listen to e-audiobooks using the BorrowBox app on your smartphone or tablet.
- Visually-impaired users can avail of our audiobook postal service.
For those who use computers:
- Some branches have computers with large-key keyboards, which are easier to use if you have low vision or stiff fingers.

Visiting the Library
We’ve made our libraries easier to visit:
- Galway City and Westside Libraries have dementia-friendly signs.
- Many branches have age-friendly chairs with good back and arm support.
- Some libraries have book trollies to help you carry books while browsing.
Getting Here
We understand that transport needs can change with age. That’s why many of our libraries offer:
- Accessible parking spaces for wheelchair users and older visitors.
- Bike parking at some locations.
Events for Everyone
We host free events all year round, especially during the Bealtaine Festival, which celebrates creativity in older age.
Some events may need booking if space is limited. To find out what’s happening:
