Audiobook Home Delivery Service

We post books on CD directly to people who are visually impaired or housebound

About the service

The Audiobook Home Delivery Service delivers books on CD to people's homes for free. The service is ideal for people who are housebound or visually impaired or for people who find it difficult to get to a library due to other circumstances.

The service began in 1974 and was originally operated from Galway City and County Library Headquarters. In January 2020 the service moved to its new home in Ballybane Library. The aim of the service is to remove barriers to accessing books and reading for pleasure for all members of the community.

What we have

We have an extensive collection of over 500 books on CD on our shelves in Ballybane Library. The collection consists of non-fiction, crime, romance and popular fiction. If you prefer to visit the library and browse the audiobooks collection you are welcome to do that. We can also request audiobooks from other libraries if we don't have what you are looking for on our shelves.

How it works

The service operates in partnership with An Post. To join the Audiobooks Delivery Service just call us on 091 509244 or email us at ballybane@galwaycoco.ie and we will register you.

We will then send you a selection of audiobooks by post, along with a special return label. Once you have finished listening to the books, return them by free post, in the envelope they came in with the special label attached.
