Enforcement

The Planning enforcement section deals with complaints from the public regarding unauthorised development.

What is Unauthorised Development?

Unauthorised development happens when:

  • Works have been carried out which requires planning permission and no planning permission has been obtained, or
  • Permission was granted, but the work has not been carried out in accordance with the approved plans or conditions, or
  • The development doesn’t meet the requirements for exempted development.

Note: Issues like land ownership, right-of-way disputes, or boundary disputes are civil matters and not handled by planning enforcement.

How to Report Unauthorised Development?

To make a complaint:

  1. Fill out and sign the a Development Complaint Form
  2. Send it by post or email to the Planning Enforcement Department.
  3. Include as much detail as possible:
    • Description of the issue
    • Location (preferably marked on a map, coordinates, or include Eircode)
    • Name and address of the owner of the land or person responsible for unauthorised works.

Complaints must be in writing and signed.
