Public Wi-Fi

Public Wi-Fi is important for people who need internet while visiting the county or who don’t have high-speed broadband at home.

Facilities and initiatives which may provide public Wi-Fi are listed below:

  • Libraries and public buildings with free Wi-Fi.
  • Under the Wi-Fi4EU scheme, there are 40 access points across the county providing free Wi-Fi to locals and visitors. This scheme is funded until 2025.
  • Under the Broadband Connection Point (BCP) Scheme, there are 21 more locations offering free public Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi4EU Scheme –European Projects Programme

The EU Commission and the Department of Rural and Community Development funded the installation of Wi-Fi access points in County Galway through the Wi-Fi4EU scheme. Galway County Council installed 40 Wi-Fi access points and is committed to funding the running costs of this service until 2025.
