Healthmatic Ltd has been appointed to install a fully equipped Changing Places facility in Portumna, funded under the 2025 CLÁR Programme (Ref: C125G09). The new amenity will be located next to the existing public toilets, with the project due for completion within the next six months.
In line with the National Disability Authority’s Guidelines, the Changing Places facility will provide more than a standard accessible toilet. It will offer additional space and specialist equipment designed to meet the needs of people with complex care requirements, supporting greater dignity, independence and participation in everyday and community life.
The accessible space will include a full-room ceiling track hoist, a height-adjustable adult-sized changing bench and a centrally located toilet, with sufficient space for carers or assistants to provide support. The facility may also benefit some neurodiverse people, particularly those who may benefit from having more space and reduced noise.
Once completed, the Changing Places facility will enable more people with disabilities, their families and carers to visit and enjoy Portumna with greater confidence, knowing that appropriate and accessible facilities are available.
