FAQ

What to do if your vehicle tax disc hasn’t arrived?

If you taxed your vehicle online and your vehicle licence (tax disc) has not arrived, you should contact the Department of Transport in the first instance:

📞 Tel: 0818 411 412
📧 Email: Motortax@transport.gov.ie

If you sent your motor taxation application to the Galway Motor Taxation Office via post and your vehicle licence (tax disc) has not arrived, please contact:

📞 Tel: 091 509099
📧 Email: motortax@galwaycoco.ie

If it is confirmed that your vehicle licence (tax disc) was processed and posted but you did not receive it, you can apply for a replacement by completing Form RF134

Please note:

  • The form must be signed and stamped by a member of An Garda Síochána.
  • It should then be presented at the Galway Motor Tax Office for processing.

If the completed RF134 is received within 30 working days of the original issue date, there is no charge for the replacement.
Applications received after this period will incur a replacement fee of €6.00.

What is my PIN for online renewals?

To renew your motor tax online, you’ll need a Personal Identification Number (PIN)

Here's how to find it:

  • For a second-hand vehicle (previously taxed): Your PIN is the last six digits of your Vehicle Registration Certificate (VRC) number.

  • For a brand new or imported vehicle (first-time taxing): Your PIN is the last six characters of your vehicle’s chassis number (VIN).
  • You can also find your PIN on your motor tax renewal notice, which is sent by post or email in the month your tax is due.

If you’ve lost your PIN, you can retrieve it online through the Motor Tax website.

What should I do if I experience difficulties renewing my motor tax online?

If you're having trouble renewing your motor tax online, support is available through the Driver and Vehicle Computer Services Division (DVCSD) of the Department of Transport. They manage the National Vehicle and Driver File (NVDF) and operate the online motor tax service.
