Declaring a Vehicle Off the Road
If your vehicle will not be used and will not be kept in a public place, you can declare it off the road.
This can be done:
- Online at www.motortax.ie
- By post using Form RF150, submitted to your local motor tax office
Important Points to Note:
- The declaration must be made in advance.
- The off-road period must be for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 12 months.
- The declaration must cover full calendar months (e.g. from the 1st to the last day of a month).
- You must make the declaration in the month your current motor tax expires.
If your vehicle is not currently taxed:
- You must first pay any arrears and tax the vehicle for at least 3 months before you can declare it off the road.
If you purchase a new or second-hand vehicle and do not intend to use it immediately:
- You must declare it off the road within 21 days of the purchase or registration date.
