Joining a book club
Joining an existing book club is a great way to get to know people in your area and of picking up books that you might not have read otherwise. Many of our libraries host monthly books clubs for adults, teens and children. Take a look at our book group events, or contact your local library branch to find out more.
Starting a book club
Can't find a book club near you? Why not start your own? Read through these book club guidelines for all you need to know to get started.
Ordering multiple copies
When it comes to getting copies of the book you choose, you have a few options. You can ask your local library if they can supply a Block Loan book club card that will allow you to borrow up to 40 items at a time. If you are happy to take responsibility for ensuring all items are returned, this may work well for your book club.
You can also suggest that each book club member reserves their own copy of the book – anyone who is not a library member can join easily and quickly for free. Be advised that if you have chosen a very new or extremely popular title, it is unlikely you will be able to get it in time for your next book club as there are usually waiting lists for the most popular titles.
Book club sets
Galway Public Libraries have book club sets for book clubs to borrow. The books must be borrowed and returned as a set. The sets can be viewed online here, but please note they must be reserved from at your local library branch either in person or on the phone.
