What is HAP?
- HAP stands for housing assistance payment.
- It's a social housing support provided by your local authority.
- The local authority pays your rent to your landlord each month, within certain limits.
- You pay a weekly contribution towards the rent to the local authority.
- You need to find your own private rented accommodation.
- The tenancy agreement is between you and your landlord.
- All private residential tenancies must be registered with the Residential Tenancies Board.
- HAP allows you to work full-time and still receive housing support.
How to apply
- First, you need to be approved for housing support.
- Download the Housing Support Application Form.
- Once approved, you'll get a HAP application form with two parts:
- Section A for you to complete.
- Section B for your landlord to complete.
