Galway County Council Meetings
Plenary meetings of the council are held on the fourth Monday of each month, except when that day is a public holiday. There is no plenary meeting of Galway county council in August. A schedule of plenary meetings for the upcoming year is approved at each annual meeting.
The schedule of upcoming meetings for the current Council term is:

- August 2025 - no meeting as per Standing Orders
- 22nd September 2025
- 20th October 2025
- 24th November 2025
- 15th December 2025
- 26th January 2026
- 23rd February 2026
- 23rd March 2026
- 27th April 2026
- 25th May 2026
Meetings start at 11:00 a.m. or at another time set by the council or the Cathaoirleach.

Public attendance at meetings
Members of the public can attend council meetings. To attend, you need to register by emailing secretary@galwaycoco.ie.

Annual meeting
The Annual Meeting of Galway county council is held in either May or June of each year. It is at this meeting that the Cathaoirleach and Leas Cathaoirleach of the County of Galway are elected and the meeting schedule for the following 12 months is agreed.
Budget meeting
The budget meeting of Galway county council is usually held in October of each year. It is a reserved function of the elected members to agree the financial budget for the following year.
Special meetings
A special meeting of Galway county council is held if there is an urgent or an important matter to discuss. The meeting will be held to address specific issues that cannot wait until the next plenary meeting.
