This is a priority for the Environment Section. We aim to provide a comprehensive programme of education and information on waste management, waste prevention, reduction, and litter. We work with Tidy Towns Committees and other Community Groups and encourage schools to join the Green Schools Programme. Through working with these groups, we share information regarding waste management, recycling, and litter, through:
- Meetings and programmes in the community.
- School activities.
- Events and promotions.
- Online through website and social media campaigns.
Waste Management Initiatives:
- Information sharing on how to manage waste and safely dispose of dangerous household waste
- Promoting reuse and recycling
- Reducing food waste
- Supporting special collection events including farm plastics, electronic waste, christmas trees, etc.
Anti-Litter Initiatives:
- National and local Clean-Up Campaigns
- Campaigns against gum litter, dog owner responsibility and littering
- Educational programmes on the radio and in cinemas.
Resource Efficiency Information:
- Information on how to save resources such as water and energy
- Highlighting the money-saving and environmental benefits of resource efficiency
- Information on greening of festivals, businesses, etc.
- Working with Green Schools on resource efficiency, and teaching about global responsibility
Community involvement is vital and we work with:
- Groups that keep towns and villages tidy.
- Volunteers.
- People who organize festivals and events.
- Any other interested community members.
We offer support to Tidy Towns groups by:
- Assisting with litter management and clean-ups.
