Community gardens

Community gardens installed across the county which were funded by Healthy Galway in 2024.

Healthy Galway allocated a total of €30,000 to support community projects, providing grants ranging from €1,000 to €5,000. Projects were to be completed by November 30, 2024, with funding primarily aimed at purchasing equipment and materials to facilitate participation in social and leisure activities.

The project proposals aimed to demonstrate an increase in the number of people engaging in regular and sustainable social and leisure activities, with a particular emphasis on the following target groups: General Population, Older People, People with Disabilities, and Youth.

Proposals were welcomed from any not-for-profit community or voluntary group managing a community garden that is freely available to the wider community. The goal was to improve social connection opportunities for older people, reduce isolation, and support physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

Feedback

We were delighted to be included in the Healthy County Galway funding for the Community Gardens Grant. We were able to purchase a climbing wall from a local business Smallwall School Products. It is a wonderful addition to our garden. Support for community gardens is vital as they're often the only green spaces in some towns. Big thank you!
