The Community Recognition Fund was established by the Department of Rural and Community Development in 2023 to acknowledge the significant efforts made by local communities in welcoming and supporting individuals arriving in Ireland.

This initiative was designed to enhance community infrastructure and amenities, benefiting all residents while specifically recognising the generosity shown by areas that have accommodated large numbers of new arrivals, particularly from Ukraine and other countries.

In 2024, the scheme continued with a funding allocation of €1,238,230 for projects across County Galway. The funding is strategically directed toward communities experiencing the highest influx of new residents, where the demand for improved facilities is most evident.
