Immerse yourself in one of Europe's most important battles that not only altered the course of Irish history but also had a profound impact on European history. 

Explore the gripping tale of how three rival European monarchs—William of Orange, James II, and Louis XIV—vied for control of Ireland through the decisive Battle of Aughrim in 1691.  

This clash, involving over 35,000 soldiers, marked a turning point in the Williamite War in Ireland.  

Through visiting the Centre, you will gain insights not only into the Battle of Aughrim but also understand the connection of this Battle, to other significant events of the Williamite War, such as the Battle of the Boyne, the sieges of Athlone and Limerick, and the Flight of the Wild Geese.

Seasonal Opening Hours (May to September)

  • Tuesday to Saturday: 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Sunday: 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Closed: Mondays

Location:
The Battle of Aughrim Visitor Centre is located in the village of Aughrim, just off the N6 and Exit 15 on the M6 Dublin–Galway Motorway. It is approximately 7 km from Ballinasloe and 22 km from Loughrea.
