Submit comments on a planning application within five weeks, with a €20 fee. Submit online, by email, post, or in person.

Making a Submission on a Planning Application

Anyone has the right to make a written submission or observation on a planning application, provided the appropriate fee is paid. Submissions or observations must be made within five weeks of the planning authority receiving the application.

When lodging a submission or observation, you must include:

  • Your name
  • The address to which any correspondence should be sent
  • The reference number of the application (if available)

Once received, your submission will be acknowledged by the planning authority. You will also be notified of the decision. 

Anyone whose submission has been acknowledged has the right to appeal the decision to An Bord Pleanála.

How to Make Your Submission

You can submit your observation to Galway County Council by:

  • Online – Submit via the online system by 11:59 p.m. on the final date for submissions.
  • Email – Send to planning@galwaycoco.ie by 4:00 p.m. on the final date.
  • Post – Send to:
    Planning Department, Galway County Council, Prospect Hill, Galway, H91 H6KX
    It must arrive by 4:00 p.m. on the final date.
  • In Person – Deliver to the Planning Counter by 4:00 p.m. on the final date.

Fees

A fee of €20 is required to make a submission or observation. Payment methods include:

  • Cheque or postal order
  • Credit/debit card (by phone after your submission is received)
