Galway County Council, in partnership with the National Transport Authority and An Taisce Green Schools, is delivering a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) scheme for Gaelscoil De hÍde on Ard na Mara Road. The project enhances safety by upgrading footpaths, cycleways, crossings, and school‑zone visibility.

The national SRTS initiative supports schools in increasing walking and cycling. It focuses on:

- Narrowed set‑down area at Scoil Mhuire with a continuous cycle track behind it
- Shared‑use path at the nearby roundabout
- New bikes stand at Scoil Mhuire
