Galway County Council and the National Transport Authority are developing an Active Travel scheme to improve safety and accessibility along Church Road and the access road to Presentation College.

🏘️ About the Area

Headford is a growing village in North Galway with increasing residential and school activity. Existing footpaths are narrow and uneven, and the wide road layout encourages unsafe parking and set‑down behaviour.

  • Increase driver awareness near schools
  • Strengthen links between schools, the church, Moyne Villa soccer club, and nearby homes
  • Highlight the school zone
  • Reduce vehicle speeds along Church Road

🛠️ Proposed Works – Church Road (L‑2103)

  • Wider footpaths and new grass verges
  • Raised zebra crossing near the church car park
  • New pedestrian openings to separate people and vehicles
  • Raised entry treatment at the church car park
  • School‑zone road markings
  • Bollards to prevent illegal parking

🛠️ Proposed Works – Access Road to Presentation College (L‑21031)

  • Tighter junction at Church Road
  • Wider footpaths along the full route
  • Raised pedestrian crossing linking to footpaths and the set‑down area
