Active Travel Scheme – Church Road, Headford
🚶♂️ Safer Walking & Cycling
Galway County Council and the National Transport Authority are developing an Active Travel scheme to improve safety and accessibility along Church Road and the access road to Presentation College.
🏘️ About the Area
Headford is a growing village in North Galway with increasing residential and school activity. Existing footpaths are narrow and uneven, and the wide road layout encourages unsafe parking and set‑down behaviour.

- Highlight the school zone
- Reduce vehicle speeds along Church Road
🛠️ Proposed Works – Church Road (L‑2103)

- Raised zebra crossing near the church car park
- New pedestrian openings to separate people and vehicles
- Raised entry treatment at the church car park
- School‑zone road markings
- Bollards to prevent illegal parking
🛠️ Proposed Works – Access Road to Presentation College (L‑21031)
- Tighter junction at Church Road
- Wider footpaths along the full route
- Raised pedestrian crossing linking to footpaths and the set‑down area
