Active Travel Investment Projects 2026

An overview of the projects on the 2026 schedule, including their current progress based on the NTA Project Lifecycle Phases.

  NTA Project Lifecycle Phases
Phase 1 Scope and Purpose - Defines the project’s scope and purpose so decision‑makers can assess whether to provide initial funding for the proposal.
Phase 2 Concept Development & Option Selection - Evaluate the proposal’s feasibility and compare all options to identify the most effective project path forward.
Phase 3 Preliminary Design - Develops the preferred option into a project design with a clear layout, enough detail to define land‑take needs, identify key environmental impacts, and produce a reliable preliminary cost estimate.
Phase 4 Statutory Process - Finalise and submit all required statutory consent documents—covering planning, environmental, and land acquisition where needed—secure the necessary approvals, and guide the process through to completion.
Phase 5 Detailed Design and Procurement - Coordinate and deliver all design and tender documentation required to implement the project, including the procurement and award of construction contracts.
Phase 6 Construction and Implementation - Galway County Council will award the construction contracts following the tender process and oversee all construction and implementation work.
Phase 7  Close- Out and Review - Ensures the project is fully closed out with no outstanding issues, delivered as specified, objectives achieved, and all lessons learned captured for future schemes.
