Litter Fine Increase to €250
Galway County Council is reminding the public that the fixed payment litter fine has increased from €150 to €250 from 1st September 2026. The increase follows a change to Section 28 of the Litter Pollution Act, provided for through the commencement of Section 26 of the Circular Economy and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2026 nationally.
The Council encourages everyone to dispose of litter responsibly and help to keep Galway’s beaches, towns, villages and public spaces litter free.
