Galway Public Libraries recently received a significant donation of local history material, including a collection of drawings depicting historical landmarks throughout Galway.
The family of the late Peadar O'Dowd - renowned author, historian, and academic - generously donated 110 drawings from Peadar's personal archives to Galway Public Libraries.
A formal presentation of the collection took place at Library HQ on 17 September, marking an important addition to our local history resources.
Distinguished guests in attendance included the Mayor of the City of Galway, Councillor Helen Ogbu; Leas-Chathaoirleach of Galway County Council, Councillor Michael Regan; Mary O'Dowd, wife of the late Peadar O'Dowd; members of the O'Dowd family; Bernard O'Hara, former colleague and lifelong friend of Peadar; and historian William Henry, a close friend and associate of the late scholar.
