The percentage of equity share retained by the Local Authority in the property will vary depending on the purchasing power of the applicant.

Who can apply?
To be eligible to apply for Affordable Housing, applicants must:
- Be a first-time buyer or meet the exceptions under the Fresh Start Principle, or
- Own a dwelling which, due to its size, is not suited to the current accommodation needs of the applicant’s household
- Each person included in the application must have the right to reside indefinitely in the State
- Each applicant is assessed and must meet certain criteria which will be outlined prior to application
How do I apply?
Applications will only be accepted through an online application portal.
On the day the portal opens:
- Register on the portal
- Complete the online application form
- Submit the requested documentation
The opening date and time will be advertised at least two weeks in advance.
Decisions will be made in accordance with eligibility criteria and Galway County Council’s Scheme of Priorities:
In certain cases, applications may be prioritised based on the date and time received.

Affordable homes will be advertised in the following places:
- Galway County Council’s website
- Galway County Council’s social media pages
- Local and national newspapers
