You cannot dispose of large household items such as furniture, bikes, carpets, kitchen units, etc., in your household collection service. These items are referred to as bulky goods as they are too large to be accepted through regular collection services and require specific disposal arrangements.
Bulky Goods items are accepted at all our Civic Amenity Sites. However, please consider the following options before disposing of these items:
- Sell, Repair or Upcycle: Some items might still have a value or could be useful to someone else.
- Donate or Reuse: Check local charity shops or second-hand sales sites. Donating or reselling bulky items helps reduce waste and benefits others.
- Check www.repairmystuff.ie, or https://www.mywaste.ie/what-to-do-with-my-large-items/
Galway County Council may also organise one-off bulky goods collection days at our Civic Amenity Sites where households can pre-book a slot at a reduced gate fee, to bring large items such as the following:
- Furniture, couches, armchairs, 3-piece suites, wardrobes, bedside lockers, bedframes, dining tables and chairs.
Please look out for these collection dates which are advertised in local newspapers and on our website and social media.
