Hazardous Waste

Monitoring and enforcing movement of hazardous waste in Ireland

Hazardous waste is waste that is dangerous or potentially harmful to human health or the environment.   To ensure safety and accountability, all hazardous waste movements within Ireland must be tracked and recorded.

Regulatory Authority:

Under the European Communities (Shipments of Hazardous Waste Exclusively within Ireland) Regulations 2011, Dublin City Council is the sole authority responsible for administering hazardous waste movements within the State.

Tracking System for Hazardous Waste:

Dublin City Council operates a Waste Transfer Management Portal (WTMP), which uses Waste Transfer Forms (WTFs) to track hazardous waste movements.

Use of this system is compulsory for anyone managing hazardous waste.

Key Steps:

  1. Register with Dublin City Council to create an account.
  2. Purchase a Waste Transfer Form (€6 per form).
  3. Complete the form online.
  4. Download and sign the form - this must accompany the waste during transit.
  5. The receiving facility must log in to validate acceptance of the load.
