The Green Coast Award is a symbol of environmental excellence and has been established to acknowledge, promote, and protect the environment of our beaches. The Award is for beaches which have excellent water quality, but which are also prized for their natural, unspoilt, environment.
To be considered for a Green Coast Award, applicant beaches must be managed in partnership with the local community. These Clean Coast groups participate in community clean-ups and work in partnership with the local authority and An Taisce to protect and enhance their adopted stretch of coastline.
The Green Coast Awards are subject to an annual application process which includes an application form, a beach management plan, and the submission of water quality sample results.
The following beaches received the Green Coast Award in 2025:
- Poll na gCaorach, Formna, Inis Oirr
- Aillebrack, Ballyconneely
- Trá Inis Oírr
- Dumhach , Inishbofin
- East End, Inishbofin
- Rinvyle Beach, Tully
