In March 2025, Healthy County Galway launched the Women’s Health Programme - an initiative designed to provide women with accessible, relevant, and empowering health promotion information. This programme offers a comprehensive overview of key topics in women’s health, aiming to raise awareness, encourage informed decision-making, and inspire women to take proactive steps in managing their wellbeing.
The talk series will return this March 2026 with a refreshed panel of speakers and expanded live streaming to more locations across the county. Stay tuned for further updates, or contact the Healthy County Galway Coordinator at arankin@galwaycoco.ie for more information.
Empowering Women's Health March 2026
The initiative began with a series of talks from a panel of experts, which were held in seven different locations around Galway County, including InisBofin and the Aran Islands, Lettermullen, Cashel, and Rosmuc.
From the month of March, women will convene in each location to view live-streamed talks by a panel of experts over three consecutive weeks. The panel will discuss a variety of topics, including Nutritional Health, Gynaecological Health, Physical Activity, Pelvic Health, and Complementary Approaches to Health.
The objective of the programme is to provide education and service information on health challenges experienced by women, including menopause, mental health, bone health, and cardiovascular health. It will promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing through nutrition talks, mindfulness, and movement activities. The programme seeks to educate women on health topics, empower them to take control of their health through informed decision-making, and implemented feedback mechanisms to gather and act on participant feedback to keep the programme engaging.
Throughout the series of live-streamed talks, there will be space for open discussion, refreshments, and opportunities for attendees to register and submit their questions to experts prior to the talks, followed by a Q&A session. By fostering open conversations and providing trusted resources, the programme supports women in seeking timely health advice and building confidence in their health journey.
The second strand of the project focuses on creating opportunities for women to reconnect by forming women’s groups in communities where there is interest. These groups will serve as a foundation for rolling out classes and activities that support and enhance women’s health and wellbeing.
Connect Cafés have been set up for women following the talk series in each location, in collaboration with Comhar na nOileáin and Forum Connemara, who partnered on this initiative.
