What is Galway County's  Local Economic & Community Plan (LECP)?

The LECP is a six-year plan setting out objectives and actions needed in County Galway to: 

  1. Promote and support local and community development, and;
  2. Promote and support economic development 

The purpose of the LECP, established under the Local Government Reform Act 2014, is to set a framework, objectives and actions need to promote and support the local and community development and the economic development of Galway County.

The LECP acts as the primary mechanism at the local level to bring forward relevant actions arising from national and regional strategies and policies that have a local remit.

Governance

The Local Government Reform Act 2014 requires that the economic elements of the LECP should be developed by the local authority Strategic Policy Committee (SPC) for Economic Development and Enterprise and that the community elements of the LECP be developed by the Local Community Development Committee (LCDC).
