Production of Road Safety Films

(a)  Go nÉirí an Bóthar Leat

In 2003, the Council launched an animated road safety film ‘Go nÉirí an Bóthar Leat' which was produced by the Council in association with the Arts Office, the Gardai, the Health Service Executive (Western Area), the National Safety Council, Foras na Gaeilge and the pupils of Ballygar National School and Scoil Mhuire an Tuairin, Béal an Daingin.

The film was made by the pupils of Ballygar National School in conjunction with a local filmmaker, Eamon Little. An Irish language version was produced by the children of Scoil Mhuire an Tuairin, Béal a Daingin, which along with the animations, involved some live action on the part of pupils. This aim of this initiative is to instill road safety values in children which they will carry into their adult lives. The advice is for children from children. It is intended that a copy of the film will be distributed for viewing in each school in Co. Galway .

This film won the National Safety Council ‘Endeavour Award' in 2004.

(b)  Ó Aois go hAois

In 2005, the Council launched a road safety awareness film ‘Ó Aois go hAois' which was produced by the Road Safety Office of the Council in association with the Arts Office, An Garda Síochána, the Health Service Executive (Western Area), the National Safety Council and two Day Care Centres in Co. Galway.

The film aims to heighten awareness of road safety values in older people and a series of workshops took place in the day care centres which were conducted by the National Safety Council and An Garda Síochána.

A copy of this film will be distributed to relevant bodies in County Galway .
