Cycle Training Programme
Galway County Council promotes a Cycle Training Programme in national schools in Co. Galway. The training is provided by ‘Safer Cycling Initiative’. The aim of this initiative is to give young children the skills to help them cycle safely and encourages the wearing of helmets at all times.
The course duration is 4 hours, which consists of 1 hour in the class room and 3 hours practical outdoors. The fee per pupil is €30.00. However, Galway Co. Council will reimburse the school €10.00 per pupil - €5 from Galway Co. Council and €5 on behalf of the Road Safety Authority. The maximum number of pupils that can be accommodated per day is 30. Please note that the training company will issue each pupil with a Certificate and a free cycling helmet worth €30 after successful completion of the training!
Safer Cycling Initiative is fully equipped with bicycles, helmets and waterproof clothing (where required) for each pupil. All of the tutors are qualified with years of cycling experience and tuition can be provided in Irish, if required.
