Exempt Vehicles

There are a number of classes of vehicles exempt from the liability to pay motor tax – these may require inspection prior to confirmation of the exempt status. In addition, certain classes of drivers or passengers may also apply for exempt status. Check the listing of exempt classes of vehicles here.

Applications for exempt status for disabled persons are made to the Revenue Commissioners, Coolshannagh, Co. Monaghan – Telephone 047 82800.

To tax a new vehicle, you will need:

1. Completed Form RF100 from motor dealer or NCT Centre

2. Evidence of Exempt Status e.g. Disabled Driver’s Certificate, or completed Declaration Form confirming specific use for any other exempt class of vehicle

To tax a used vehicle not previously taxed as exempt, you will need:

1. Completed Change of Particulars Form RF111 – to change status to exempt and also fully completed with renewal details

2. Evidence of Exempt Status e.g. Disabled Driver’s Certificate, or completed Declaration Form confirming specific use for any other exempt class of vehicle
