Irish Historic Towns Atlas No. 20, Tuam


Irish Historic Towns Atlas, no. 20, Tuam, by Tony Claffey will be Published in early June 2009.

The Tuam atlas will trace the growth and decline of Tuam through its origins as a monastic centre, to its rise in the 12th century as a Cathedral City, to its development in the eighteenth century as an important trading centre in the west of Ireland. Histories of over 700 sites (streets, markets, schools, etc) are detailed alongside c. 20 maps (thematic, reconstruction and historical) and views of the town presented in large format and colour. 

Tuam is no. 20 in the Irish Historic Towns Atlas series, published by the Royal Irish Academy. It will be comparable to the other Irish atlases produced in the scheme and over 450 towns and cities all over Europe that are compiled following similar guidelines.
