Function Of Environment Section

The protection and enhancement of the environment is one of the Council's main objectives. A clean, healthy environment which promotes and facilitates sustainable development is the legacy which we all must leave to future generations. In addition to monitoring and protecting the natural environment, the built environment and the people who live there is also monitored in relation to safety from fire.




Connacht Waste Management Region Evaluation of the Replacement Waste Management Plan for the Connacht Region 2006 - 2011
This is to advise that Connacht Waste Management Region has commenced an evaluation of the Replacement Waste Management Plan for the Connacht Region 2006 – 2011 and, consequent on this evaluation, the Plan will be revised or replaced as necessary to comply with the WasteFramework Directive (2008/98/EC) transposed through European Communities (Waste Directive) Regulations 2011 (S.I. 126 of 2011). The existing Replacement Waste Management Plan for theConnacht Region 2006 – 2011 must be evaluated by 31 December 2012. The subsequent revision or replacement of waste management plans will require Strategic Environmental Assessment and will have regard to the Appropriate Assessment requirements under Article 6 of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC).
